The regulations introduced additional tax saving opportunities for commercial property owners including allowing retirement of structural components and leasehold improvements.

IRS Expands EPAct (179D)
Opportunities -
Retroactive Studies

Prior to Revenue-Procedure 2011-14, the 179D deduction could only be claimed for improvements placed in service on the current tax return or within the past three years through amended returns.

The deduction can now be claimed for improvements as far back as 2006 through Form 3115 without amending returns.
